2004 Gates Scholarship Winners
Over the past 28 years, approximately 313 students have been awarded nearly $324,000 through the Raymond F. Gates, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Program. This year alone, 26 outstanding students from across CT were awarded scholarships totaling $31,000! In addition to the Gates Scholarship Program, CAR has presented a $1,000 Past President's scholarship to a deserving student enrolled in the real estate program at the University of CT for many years now. See below for just some of the impressive accomplishments from all of the 2004 Scholarship winners.

2004 Past President's Scholarship Winner
Sara Howard - is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in real estate and urban economics at the University of CT. She is a member of the UCONN real estate society and has worked for CCA, LLC, an engineering, environmental, surveying and landscaping architecture firm in Brookfield, where she was Director of Special Projects. Sara intends to amplify her comprehension of the real estate industry through her studies and experiences working with developers and would like to one day own her own real estate development company.
2004 Gates Scholarship Winners
William Abbott, III - currently attends the College of William and Mary in Virginia where he is ranked within the top 5% of his contemporaries as he pursues a program in government and math. William has received several collegiate honors including the Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Societies in addition to participating in the concert and pep bands. After he completes his undergraduate studies, he plans to attend law school and pursue a career in law. He is the son of William and Beth Abbott. William is the Designated REALTORŪ of Abbott Real Estate in Madison and is a member of the Midd-Shore Association.
Chad Albert - is currently pursuing a double major in Philosophy and Political Science at Tufts University. He has just completed his freshman year where he made the Dean's list during both semesters in addition to participating in college activities including intramural basketball, being a member of the Tufts Republicans and being involved in the College's literary magazine. He hopes to attend Harvard Law School in the future and someday become involved in government and politics. He is the son of Paul and Mary Albert. Mary is a REALTORŪ with Century 21 Scalzo Home Services in Bethel and is a member of the Northern Fairfield County Association.
Aaron Bell - currently attends MIT where he is studying aerospace engineering. He's a member of MIT's Emergency Medical Team, was Captain of the lightweight crew team and has received numerous awards. Aaron has also assisted on a Mars gravity biosatellite project where he conducted experimental research. In the future, he plans to work as an engineer in the aerospace industry and someday apply his experience to the field of patent law. He is the son of Nicholas and Laurie Bloom-Bell. Laurie is a REALTORŪ with Coldwell Banker in Westport and is a member of the Mid-Fairfield County Association.
Jessica Bogucki - recently graduated with honors from The Morgan School in Clinton where she received academic achievement awards in English, French, health, math, science and social studies. She was active with the student council in addition to being a scholar athlete participating in soccer and on the indoor and outdoor track teams. Jessica plans to attend UConn in the fall where she will study engineering. She is the daughter of Christopher and Terry Bogucki. Terry is a REALTORŪ with the Beazley Company in Clinton and is a member of the Midd-Shore Association.
Cara Cloutier - graduated from New Milford High School last month where she consistently made the honor roll. She has received many awards including varsity letters in ice hockey and volleyball, academic achievement in chemistry and an academic/ leadership award in physical education. She will attend Springfield College in the fall where she will pursue a program in athletic training. She is the daughter of William and Maureen Cloutier. Maureen is a REALTORŪ with Prudential Adams & Associates in New Milford and is a member of the New Milford Board.
Christina Craw - graduated from St. Joseph High School last month where she excelled in all honors classes and received numerous awards. She also participated in several programs including student council, Captain of the girl's varsity swim team and Co-captain of the boy's varsity golf team in addition to many other activities and community volunteer positions. This fall, Christina will attend Boston University where she plans to study business and economics. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Lorrie Craw. Jeffrey is a REALTORŪ with William Raveis Real Estate in Trumbull and is a member of the Bridgeport Board.
Emily Dakin - recently graduated from Immaculate High School in Danbury where she has received many honors including National Honor Society and French National Honor Society. She also participated in several extracurricular activities such as Captain of the cross country team, varsity tennis, Editor of the yearbook, President of the French club, key club and the ski club. Emily plans to attend Seton Hall University this fall where she will major in international relations and diplomacy. She is the daughter of Rollin and Beverly Dakin. Rollin is a REALTORŪ with Century 21 Home Services Scalzo in Bethel and is a member of the Northern Fairfield County Association.
Paul Franzago - graduated from Trumbull High School last month where he excelled in his college preparatory curriculum making the honor roll every semester. He participated in several activities including baseball, basketball, the ping pong club and Spanish club in addition to volunteering in several programs including safe rides and Special Olympics. Paul will attend Bryant College this fall where he will pursue a degree in Finance. He is the son of R. Thomas and Andrea Franzago. R. Thomas is a REALTORŪ with William Raveis in Monroe and is a member of the Bridgeport Board.
Michael Jannetty - recently graduated from Wolcott High School where he was involved in several extracurricular activities including football, track and field, the yearbook committee, prom committee and Spanish club to name a few. He will attend Quinnipiac University this fall where he plans to study business. He is the son of Michael and Cindy Jannetty. Cindy is a REALTORŪ with Fercodini Properties and is a member of the Waterbury Board.
Esther Judelson - is currently attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where her major is finance and her minor is architecture. She hopes to one day pursue a career working in real estate investment banking. She has recently worked on two internships at Deutsche Bank in London and New York in the real estate debt group. She is also the managing editor of the MIT yearbook and participates on the varsity crew team. Esther is the daughter of Bruce and Deborah Judelson. Deborah is a REALTORŪ with Martin & Associates in Guilford and is a member of the Midd-Shore Association.
Robert Kornhaas - is currently attending the University of Notre Dame where he is studying economics in the College of Arts and Letters. He has just completed his freshman year where he achieved the Dean's list both semesters while participating in several dorm sports including baseball, football, basketball and softball. Robert is studying economics and is planning to attend Law School after he completes his undergraduate studies. He is the son of Robert and Kathleen Kornhaas. Kathleen is a REALTORŪ with Davis & Hoyt/GMAC Real Estate in Danbury and is a member of the Northern Fairfield County Association.
Kelly LaBarre - graduated from Edwin O. Smith High School in Storrs last month where she excelled in her advanced courses. She has received several awards including National Honor Society, Excellence in Biology, Politics and U.S. History in addition to being active in several activities such as Captain of the varsity soccer team and a peer tutor. Kelly will attend the University of Vermont this fall where she has enrolled in the College of Engineering and plans to study biomedical engineering. She is the daughter of Robert and Mary LaBarre. Mary is a REALTORŪ with RF Crossen Realty Group in Tolland and is a member of the Hartford Association.
Carla Landelius - is currently pursuing a double major in international relations and Spanish at Boston University. She intends to continue on to Law School and someday pursue a career in immigration law. In addition to maintaining the Dean's list while enrolled in the University honors program, she is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Golden Key Honors Society and has participated in several activities and programs including BU's Pre-Law Society, BU's Community Service Center and coordinator of the first-year student outreach project. She is the daughter of Len and Christelle Landelius. Christelle is a REALTORŪ with Davis & Hoyt/GMAC in Danbury and is a member of the Northern Fairfield County Association.
Ryan Levine - currently attends Yale University where his studies focus on political science and East Asian languages. He intends to pursue a career in international business, law or diplomacy. He has recently studied abroad at the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies at Tsinghua in Beijing. He has received countless awards and recognitions and has participated in several programs including Yale Club of Beijing Committee, Society of Orpheus and Bacchus, Vice President/founding member in charge of public relations/logistics and Manager of the alumni network. Ryan is the son of Barry and Stephanie Levine. Barry is a REALTORŪ with Landmark Agency in Waterford and is a member of the Eastern CT Association.
Nicole Linstrum - recently graduated from Danbury High School where she consistently maintained the honor roll each semester. She participated in several activities including key club and future teachers club in addition to volunteering at Danbury Hospital, King Street Primary School and Pembroke Elementary School. Nicole will attend Simmons College in Boston this fall where she will study elementary education. She is the daughter of Ted and Bernadette Linstrom. Bernadette is a REALTORŪ with Pandolfi Properties in Danbury and is a member of the Northern Fairfield County Association.
Michele Longhi - graduated from Suffield High School last month. While achieving honors in her advanced placement courses, she received numerous other awards and honors including many agricultural education excellence and achievement awards while being very active with the FFA. Michele is planning to attend UConn's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in the fall where she will have a double major in resource economics and business management. She is the daughter of David and Lori Longhi. Lori is a REALTORŪ with First Pioneer Farm Credit in Enfield and is a member of the Hartford Association.
Brendan McLaughlin - currently attends Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he is pursuing a degree in actuarial mathematics. He has received several scholastic honors including National Honor Society, Yale Book Award and the Pfizer Science Award in addition to being designated a "Charles O. Thompson Scholar" in recognition of his superior academic accomplishments at WPI. After graduation, Brendan anticipates becoming an actuary and will apply his knowledge of mathematics in some area of the business field. He is the son of Terrence McLaughlin who is the Designated REALTORŪ of McLaughlin Real Estate in Stonington and is a member of the Eastern CT Association.
Rebecca Meyer - is currently enrolled in a 5-year program at Northeastern University which alternates between 6 months of courses and 6 months of co-op experience. While maintaining the Dean's list, she actively participates as a member of the general board for the Sigma Delta Tau national sorority and the communications club in addition to being a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She intends to someday pursue a career as an event planner. She is the daughter of Gary and Shawn Meyer. Gary is a REALTORŪ with Litchfield County Realty and is a member of the Litchfield County Board.
Eleanor Millman - is pursuing a major in physics and a minor in public policy at Yale University and will potentially go on to earn a doctorate in Physics. She has received numerous awards including "Perspectives on Science Scholar" and "Governor's Scholar of CT" in addition to participating in many activities including the Yale Physics Olympics and the Yale Bridge club. After graduation she would like to pursue a career in science public policy or possibly as a nuclear physics research scientist. She is the daughter of Peter Millman and Marie Cantino. Peter is a REALTORŪ with Ferrigno REALTORSŪ in Storrs and is a member of the Tri-County Board.
Nicole Papastathis - Nicole received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Tufts University with Cum Laude distinction and plans to attend New York Medical College this fall. After graduating as Valedictorian of her class at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, she continued to strive in her studies at Tufts University consistently making the Dean's list while participating in several activities including the Tufts yearbook committee and as a peer academic leader. She currently works as a research assistant for molecular, cellular and developmental biology at Yale University where she has assisted and conducted many successful experiments and examinations. She is the daughter of Dennis and Anne Papastathis. Anne is a REALTORŪ with William Raveis Real Estate in Norwalk and is a member of the Mid-Fairfield County Association.
David Rosten - graduated from Fairfield High School last month. Despite being an auditory learner, David excelled in his studies while balancing several activities and volunteer experiences. He is very dedicated to many community services including the Congregation Beth El, the Jewish Home for the Elderly and the Hollander House Apartments where he visits with the elderly. David will attend the University of Hartford in the fall where will pursue communications and Jewish studies. He is the son of Michael and Marjorie Rosten. Michael is a REALTORŪ with RE/MAX Heritage in Westport and is a member of the Gr. Fairfield Board.
Gregory Strait - currently attends Georgetown University where he is majoring in health studies. While on the Dean's list, he is also a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in several activities/programs including the Hoya Blue Sport Promotion Executive Board, the Georgetown Research Conference, the Georgetown Journal of Health Sciences and the H.O.P.E. Dental Initiative. After he completes his undergraduate studies, Gregory plans to attend Dental School. He is the son of William and Constance Strait. Constance is a REALTORŪ with Coldwell Banker in Danbury and is a member of the Northern Fairfield County Association.
Craig Thomas - is currently pursuing a degree in civil engineering at the University of Connecticut. He has also enrolled in the Air Force ROTC program and intends to pursue a career in the Air Force upon his graduation. In addition to achieving the Engineering Dean's list, he is a national honor roll inductee and has participated in several activities including a member of the AF ROTC drill team, First Sergeant of the Civil Air Patrol U.S. Air Force Auxiliary and the UConn fencing club. He is the son of Horatio and Karlene Thomas. Horatio is a REALTORŪ with Century 21 Access America in Bridgeport and is a member of the Bridgeport Board.
Kathleen Vannucci - recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Loyola College in Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science with a Spanish minor. She is enrolled to attend the Loyola University Chicago School of Law this fall and plans to one day pursue a career in the field of environmental law and family law. She has received numerous awards and honors including Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society, Alpha Sigma Nu National Jesuit Honor Society and Phi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society. She has also studied abroad at the University of Alcala in Spain. She is the daughter of Joseph and Marilynn Vannucci. Marilynn is a REALTORŪ with Davis & Hoyt/GMAC in Bethel and is a member of the Northern Fairfield County Association.
Maureen Vannucci - attends the Sellinger School of Business at Loyola College in Maryland where she studies finance and international business with a minor in Asian studies. She has recently studied abroad at the Assumption University of Bangkok in Thailand. In addition to achieving the Dean's list, she has received several honors including membership in Alpha Sigma Nu and the "Green and Grey" Society. Some of her extracurricular activities include being a member of the student government, social action committee, the community service council and the academic mentor board. Maureen is the daughter of Joseph and Marilynn Vannucci. Marilynn is a REALTORŪ with Davis & Hoyt/GMAC in Bethel and is a member of the Northern Fairfield County Association.
Caitlin Woods - graduated from Suffield High School last month with honors.
