Your Local Real Estate is Going Global

Do you know that the local real estate market is actually getting bigger and bigger?  Not only are many REALTORS® willing to travel further to get the deal done, buyers are willing to expand their search requirements to find the best real estate deal that suits their needs.  Even though you may not think your business is going global, there’s a good chance it is!

The global and international initiatives at NAR & CAR are not just for big city, high-powered brokers and agents.  Here in the Northeast agents are often questioned by Canadians looking to purchase real estate – and more often they get calls from buyers who don’t necessarily speak English but want information about listings.  As an agent working corporate relocations, you are probably given leads of clients whose jobs are relocating – and there’s a good chance English isn’t their first language. You may think this won’t happen to you, or that you don’t want to practice International Real Estate, but soon it will be everywhere. Don’t you want to be ready?

Learn more about how to proactively merge into the Global Real Estate market and know how to generate more International business in your community by checking out this informative Global Business Tips video on REALTOR®TV.  It’s commercial-free and chock full of tips on how YOU can find International business opportunities in your local market.  From working with your community to increase International Investors to creating videos which show off your community’s lifestyle & amenities, you’ll find ways you can easily take the world by storm!

A Tour of India

It’s not that often that you find a restaurant worthy of a NY Times review, let alone one in eastern Connecticut.  Read the review for yourself and check out the festival of flavors at Utsav Indian Cuisine in Vernon.  It’s well worth the drive from anywhere.  AND if you give them your REALTOR® business card you get 10% off your bill (valid on dinner only; does not include tax or tip).

International Listings Coming to REALTOR.com®

(Reprinted with permission of realtor.org/global).

Coming in late 2011, REALTOR.com® is launching its global site, expanding the exposure of U.S. listings on REALTOR.com® to international markets and offering international listings, translation services, and area/currency conversion. This benefit is included in members' annual NAR dues—there is no added charge.

The launch of the global site will offer true global exposure and promises to increase the visibility of the site around the world and allow the millions of Americans buying abroad to view property listings in the familiar REALTOR.com® format. Even more exciting, buyers from all over the world will be able to view properties in their preferred format—language, currency, and units of measurement.

Consumers will be able to search listings in the following 11 languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Dutch, Chinese, Russian, Korean, and Japanese.  Visitors' language, measurement, and currency preferences can be saved as a default to facilitate future visits.   Visitors will have a choice to search by city name or map search, using a drill-down feature to select a geographical region—no longer will a visitor need to know the distinctions between Hoboken, N.J. and New York City to get the results he/she seeks.

For the first time, property listings from outside the U.S. will also be available on REALTOR.com®, providing more opportunities for global business than ever before.  Listings from various locations around the world will be available in eight languages, with area and currency conversion features to make browsing easier for consumers no matter where they reside.

If your MLS is currently on REALTOR.com® your listings will automatically be included in the International site at no charge!

International BYB
(Build Your Business)
Tip #7

Learn your local second home marketplace as a way to get into the International marketplace. Show what makes your community great and let them know this is a desirable area to invest in.  What makes Connecticut ideal for those who often travel to New York or Boston? Convenience! By knowing your community, you will often be able to find what buyers are looking for even if it's not yet on the market.
