The National Association of REALTORS® recently
unveiled The REALTOR® Party Political Survival
Initiative.
In summary, a Supreme Court
ruling last year now allows “soft” (or corporate)
dollars to be used to fund political advocacy
efforts. As a result, NAR has launched The
REALTOR® Party Political Survival Initiative which
includes a proposed dedicated dues increase of $40
beginning in 2012. The dues increase would
be used exclusively to fund political and issues
advocacy efforts.
You should take the time
to learn more about NAR’s rationale for this
initiative.
points.
Click here to access the PowerPoint
presentation. When viewing the PowerPoint,
hold your cursor over the note/comment box in the
top left corner of each slide to read the
presentation notes that accompany that particular
slide.
A vote on this proposal will take place at the
Board of Directors meeting during the NAR Midyear
meetings. In preparation for this vote, CAR
emailed out to all members a short survey
providing the opportunity for you to share your
opinion on the Initiative. You are strongly
encouraged to take advantage of this one time
opportunity to respond to the survey that was
emailed to you, sharing with your NAR Directors
what your position is on this Initiative. CAR will
compile the results and share them with the CT NAR
Directors before they head to the NAR Midyear
meetings the week of May 9 where they will be
voting on this issue.
The deadline to respond to this survey
is today! |

Emails and
Confidentiality.
When emailing a cooperating
agent in a transaction, be sure you are not simply
forwarding an e-mail that includes your and your
client’s exchange of information, conversations
and/or strategy. It sounds obvious, but it has
happened. Article 1 of the Code of Ethics states
that a REALTOR®’s primary obligation is to promote
and protect one’s client’s interests, so revealing
confidential information would not be promoting or
protecting a client’s best interests. The safer
route (and in conformance with CGS Sec.
20-325h, Prohibitions on use or
disclosure of confidential information), is
to create and send an email to a cooperating agent
that stands alone, without any possible inclusion
of your and your client’s exchanges of
confidential information. |

Sales Rise in
March
Sales of existing-home
sales rose in March, continuing an uneven recovery
that began after sales bottomed last July,
according to the National Association of
Realtors®.
Existing-home sales, which are
completed transactions that include single-family,
townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, increased 3.7
percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of
5.10 million in March from an upwardly revised
4.92 million in February, but are 6.3 percent
below the 5.44 million pace in March 2010. Sales
were at elevated levels from March through June of
2010 in response to the home buyer tax credit. Read more here.
